Moving to NC - Have Questions

We are seriously considering a move to Nevada City. I have a lot of questions about what it will be like for a liberal-minded family with a teenage son. Will he find other kids at the high school that are like him? I know there is a wide range of political views in the area. My question is not just about politics, but about values and style. Will a musically inclined, non-main stream teen, find people there? Thanks in advance for any advice on this!
